Set Life: Laughter Is Required On Set

By Jade Summers

We have a motto on set—laughter is required. Not suggested. Not optional. Required. Because no matter where we are—whether it’s a mansion on Star Island in Miami, a rooftop overlooking the skyline, Madison Square Garden in New York City, a castle in London, or a chateau in the countryside of France—the constant is never the location. It’s the people.

“The energy on set determines everything that follows.”

It always comes back to how people feel.

We’ve worked with celebrity business moguls, global operators, founders scaling into nine figures, and boutique practices just getting started. Different stages, different industries, different stories. But the success of any production doesn’t come down to the camera, the lighting, or the setting—it comes down to how people feel when they’re in it.

There’s always pressure on set. Timelines. Expectations. Multiple moving parts—camera, sound, production, talent—all aligned to capture something that has to feel effortless. And when that pressure takes over, it shows. It tightens the room. It limits expression. It creates distance between the subject and the story.

Laughter breaks that instantly.

“When people relax, the real story shows up.”

Connection creates better outcomes.

Laughter resets the environment. It brings everyone back into the moment. It creates real connection between people who may have just met hours ago but now feel aligned. And when that happens, everything opens up. Conversations improve. Performances elevate. Energy shifts.

There’s also a physiological impact. When people laugh, breathing changes. Posture relaxes. Expressions become natural. Timing sharpens. All of those micro-adjustments translate directly into what the camera captures. It feels real. It feels human. And that authenticity is what holds attention.

“People don’t remember the shot—they remember how it felt.”

This is what makes the experience last.

From a production standpoint, this is one of the most overlooked advantages. You can have the best technology—top-tier cameras, perfect lighting, flawless sound—but if the energy is off, the final product reflects it. When the environment is right, everything improves. The visuals, the performances, the experience itself.

But beyond the work, something more important happens. People remember how they felt. The conversations between takes. The shared moments. The laughter that wasn’t planned but became part of the story. That’s what builds relationships. That’s what brings people back.

Because at the end of the day, no matter the location or the level, it always comes back to the people you’re with. And when the energy is right, the work doesn’t just get done—it becomes something people never forget.

That’s why laughter isn’t optional.

It’s required.
